Workshop Description:

He is out of control! She struggles with paying attention in class. They are so clingy lately! Do these statements from parents and caregivers sound familiar to you? It can be difficult to determine which diagnosis best fits your client’s symptoms when we know that ADHD and PTSD can be co-occurring disorders. Come join us in examining the symptoms and behaviors of the common childhood diagnoses of Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and how to best decipher the differences between them in the playroom.

Workshop Objectives:

1. Participants of this workshop will examine through a play therapy lens the Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) diagnostic criterion as stated by the DSM-V-TR.

2. Participants of this workshop will identify PTSD symptoms in children and demonstrate 6 play therapy interventions with clients who demonstrate these symptoms in the playroom.

3. Participants of this workshop will review and discuss post traumatic play in children citing examples through personal experiences in the playroom.

4. Participants of this workshop will examine through a play therapy lens Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder diagnostic criterion as stated by the DSM-V-TR.

5. Participants of this workshop will identify common ADHD symptoms in children and demonstrate 6 play therapy interventions with clients who demonstrate these symptoms in the playroom.


6. Participants of this workshop will review and discuss dysregulated and limit-testing play in the children citing examples through personal experiences in the playroom.
