KSSWA Spring 2023 Conference

8:30 – 9:00 Conference registration

9:00 – 10:30 Ragan Snyder-Smith, “Playful Ways to Regulate the Nervous System for Anxiety”

10:30 – 10-45 Break:  Seasonal fresh fruit, muffins, iced water and coffee will be provided.

10:45 – 12:00 Session with Ragan will continue. Presentation objectives are listed below.

1) Participants will be introduced to the history of parts therapy approaches and Internal Family Systems theory, developed by Richard Schwartz, and how this can be applied in school social work.

2) Participants will identify the relationship of parts therapy to neuropsychology and self-compassion.

3) Participants will articulate how creative techniques can be paired with IFS to help children in school social work.

12:00 – 12:20 Recognition and celebration of the KSSWA School Social Worker of the Year and the Children’s Champion for 2023.

12:20 – 1:00 Lunch: Boxed lunches will be provided – sandwiches to include gluten free option, chips, fruit salad and a brownie bar.

1:00 – 2:30 Toriano Porter, “I Am Subsidized Housing and Government Cheese”

2:30 – 2:45 Break: Popcorn, blend trail mix with nuts and chocolate, iced water will be provided.

2:45 – 4:00 Session with Toriano will continue. Presentation objective is below.

1.     Presentation will focus on equipping school social workers with strategies and things to consider when working with marginalized youth and their families.

PARKING: Please use 19E to park for our event.  A portion of the lot will be blocked off towards the north end for the baseball game so please do not to park in that area - which will coned off.

We have a block of rooms reserved at the Hyatt WSU location for anyone who is travelling and/or would like to stay overnight. Please book by 04/14/2023 if you are interested in this option!
